Afternoon off and 15 knots W-NW according to Solent Sailboards, so jacked in the library session and headed down to Hillhead. 2 or 3 people out planing comfortably when I arrived, so rigged up in a hurry. But then guess what just before I hit the water the wind began to die. Slogged out and in a couple of times cursing my luck, then gave up. Was made worse by a guy out on big formula kit who kept on zipping past me fully planing. Arse.

When de-rigging got chatting to a guy on the beach (also a windsurfer, but hadn't been out). He said further up Southampton Water is often a little bit windier in a NW wind, and driving up the road towards Meon and launching from there is sometimes a good plan if the wind is iffy. Indeed I could see a windsurfer and a few kiters out and going well when looking up that way from the beach where I was. So should have gone there today, but will try there some other time.

At least the sun was shining
